How do I know if you are the career change coach for me?
Excellent question! Let's start with a free 20-minute phone chat to see if we are a good fit. You can tell me what you'd like to achieve through coaching. I tell you how I work and outline what you can expect from coaching sessions with me. Email me to book your chat.
Where do you coach?
I live in Sydney. My clients are from everywhere. All my coaching sessions for local and global career changers are via Zoom.
How long are the sessions?
Each session runs for an hour. In between sessions, you'll have reflective exercises and real-world missions to complete. You'll need to invest between two and three hours during the week to prepare for the next session.
How many sessions will I need?
The program is 8 coaching sessions, with exercises and missions to do during the week. Each coaching session is for one hour.
We start with weekly session and later in the process (normally from session 7), once you start exploring career ideas in the real world, there is the option to meet fortnightly rather than weekly. This gives you more time to crack on between sessions.
Do I have to do anything between sessions?
Yes! At the end of each session, we will chat about what's next, and I will email you exercises and missions to do that week. For example, you might:
Review and expand on the exercises we discussed in that week's session
Complete fresh thinking exercises to help you gain clarity on what will be important in your career going forwards
Speak to people in intriguing career fields (don't let this scare you, we build up to it gently)
Put something we discussed into practice
Will you assess my skills and advise me on my ideal career?
I'm not a Career Counsellor or Career Adviser. As your coach, I will never tell you what to do.
I'll lead you through a practical, dynamic process to get clear about what purposeful, enjoyable work looks like for you. We'll explore your skills, motivations, and values and will look at how they shape your career 'must haves' and 'maybes.'
We'll brainstorm career ideas, but I will never advise you.
Why not? Because you're much more likely to be curious and courageous about exploring career options you've generated yourself than ones imposed on you by someone else.
Do I have to do psychometric tests like Myers Briggs?
These tests can be interesting and useful. But in a career change context, they can also be a bit confusing. As an accredited Careershifters and Firework Coach, I use the creative and expansive exercises developed by career change experts who created these programs.
What types of career changes do people make as a result of your coaching?
My clients transition to many and varied careers, including:
Completely different jobs they've always thought about but thought they'd never have
New roles in the same or other organisations in their current field
Freelancing or launching their own businesses
Portfolio careers combining two or more things they love to do
Surprisingly wonderful jobs they never imagined doing or never knew existed
If you'd like specific examples, book a chat.
One of the loveliest perks of career coaching is seeing my clients find the energy and confidence to revitalise life outside of work. Clients often come to sessions buzzing about reconnecting with favourite people or returning to neglected hobbies, or starting new projects.
What training have you done?
I have a coaching qualification from CoachU. I'm also a Careershifters & Firework Advanced Certified Coach.' The International Coach Federation recognises all of my qualifications.
What will I pay?
The 8 session program including all coaching sessions, exercises and missions is charged as 3 monthly payments of AU$700 (including GST).
